Glyn-Coch Studios Bone China Hand Decorated at Glyn-Coch Craft Centre to designs by Jean Evans.

All our hand decorated bone china is bought from British businesses  that we have used for several years. It is made by well known British potters, though in present economic conditions we cannot be sure it is all made in this country. Our decoration is placed by hand, fired on, and is food and dishwasher safe, and unless gilded it can be used in a microwave. (We use some items in our tea room, and in the house so we are certain that the decoration is safe and hardwearing.)

Designs (unless stated otherwise) are by Jean Evans who was trained at Royal Worcester, and since leaving there has done freelance work for them and other major potters, the RAF, Cadw (for whom she has painted most of the Welsh Castles), Cadbury's and many others. She also created the designs for the original Glyn-Coch Design China company which moved from here in 1995. (We arrived in 2000 and met Jean about 2 years later.)

We decorate complete dinner services or tea sets to order and they can be either hand decorated or hand painted. We also decorate promotional china for other businesses, and can do individual items for special occasions, charity events civic ceremonies etc.

We started making wool kits to sell wool from our small flock of very rare Norfolk Horn sheep. These days, not all the wool is Norfolk Horn, as some of the techniques need different qualities of wool. One of the oldest ways to use wool was wet felting, but the needle felting kits we sell are based on the dry felting  industrial process of the 19th century and allow three dimensional objects to be made during the felting process.

Cork work or French Knitting for all the family. (You may also remember knitting on dollies or cotton reels.) Often thought of as a toy, round looms are one of the oldest forms of knitting, historically coming after wet felting, and before knitting on needles. The looms are an international collaboration between two small craft businesses and we do the UK assembly for our American colleagues. The nylon pegs have a groove for the tool to pass behind the wool, which makes it much easier to knit then the nails on the traditional dolly/cotton reel. Both children, and elderly people who have given up knitting on needles, find knitting on these round looms easy and fast. Using 10 pegs on a round loom allows you to make dolls hats, ipod or mobile phone covers (a good idea for confusing potential muggers) or small party bags etc. Bigger looms allow you to make child or adult hats, socks (with turned heels) fishermen's seamless jumpers, skirts, dresses, blankets and even quilts. As with all craft work you are only limited by your imagination!

As far as we know these looms are unique in the UK (a large retailer experimented with a molded plastic version a few years ago but has now stopped.) Our looms are made of wood with nylon pegs, and are stronger and more comfortable to use then the plastic versions. They are sold at the same price. The looms are assembled here at Glyn-Coch.

Instructions in the kits should be good enough for most people to complete the example project. However if you have difficulty, or if you are wondering whether to buy, we have a short video you can watch. This was taken when a customer phoned in with problems and Thelma picked up a loom so that she could set up the problem she was trying to solve. In the resulting video you can just hear the customer asking questions. A fortnight later she arrived here with a dress, a suit (Jacket and Skirt) and numerous hats scarves and so on, that she had made!  We are not expecting you to be as productive, but after watching this video you will be well on the way!
